Counting the Cost of Salvation

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.” – Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)

Research reveals that the Prophet Isaiah prophesied about the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus seven hundred to seven hundred and fifty years before the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. His prophecy, in summary, chronicled the cost our Saviour King paid for the redemption of the sinful souls of all mankind.

The key details of Isaiah 53:5, when contextualised, reveal that He, Jesus, being “wounded for our transgressions,” refers to the physical and spiritual suffering caused by human sin; “Being bruised for our iniquities,” emphasises the severity of the suffering, bearing the weight of wrongdoing. “The chastisement of our peace was upon Him” highlights that His penalty brought reconciliation for humanity. “By His stripes we are healed,” points to spiritual and emotional restoration.

Beloved, the cost of Salvation for us is free, but Jesus paid the price with His very life. We owed a price we could not pay, and He paid a price He did not owe. We are not saved by our good works, but rather by the divine sacrificial blood shed on the cross of Calvary by our Lord Jesus Christ for our sins. The Word in Hebrews 9:22 (ESV) states,  “…without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”

Moreover, the Apostle Paul reminds us in Hebrews 10:26 (NIV), “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left.”

As we celebrate and commemorate the death, burial, and resurrection during the Easter season, let not the commercial aspects of the world take centre stage. As usual, the devil and his imps are intent on rewriting the narrative of Easter by emphasising Easter Bunny, Easter chocolate eggs, Easter hats competition, Easter parades, and secular parties.

But remember, it’s about Jesus’ death and resurrection for all mankind!
